Appraisal Career

A Career in Appraisal in New York State involves 3 components. They are as follows:

  • Education
  • Experience
  • State Testing

EDUCATION: To enter the career, one simply needs to complete the New York State mandated Educational requirements. They include 150 Hour of Approved Education.  Call for information!

EXPERIENCE: This comes later. You start as an Appraiser Assistant, wheras your completed assignments are reviewed by a seasoned professional. You receive payment for these appraisals and keep a log to show your experience to the State of new York. This is required to become a Fully Licensed Appraiser within 2 years of entering the field. Everyone starts out as a Licensed Appraiser Experience, simply because they do not have the experience in this field.

STATE TESTING: Once you are closer to realizing the experience needed in New York State, you should take and pass the State Test. This is one of the 3 components needed to become Fully Licensed. At the end of 2 years after you have been in the field as a Licensed Appraiser Assistant, you will submit your log and passing slip to the State to continue in this career as a LICENSED APPRAISER. You may also consider becoming Certified Residential or Certified General. To this end, call us and we will help you to see if a career in Appraisal is for you.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: Before you renew or upgrade a license or level of licensure you must complete 28 hours of approved continuing education. Part of this education must also include a 7 hour USPAP Update course (Which is the Do's and Don't's in the Appraisal Industry) to keep you current on regulations that effect the Appraiser.
