Home Inspection Career
A Career in Home Inspection in New York State involves 3 components. They are as follows:
- Education
- Experience
- State Testing
EDUCATION: To enter the career, one simply needs to complete the New York State mandated Educational requirements. They include 100 Hour of Approved Education.
EXPERIENCE: This comes now. All you need is 40 hours of Supervised Home Inspections. This can either be performed with a school or independently with a Licensed Home Inspector in New York State, willing to sign an affidavit of your activities.
STATE TESTING: Once you meet the 100 hour education requirement and the 40 hours of supervised inspections, you must successfully pass the NY State Home Inspector Exam, which is offered approx. 10 times annually at most of the state's testing centers. Upon successful passing of this exam, you may file for Licensure as a Home Inspector in New York State.
CONTINUING EDUCATION: Before you renew you must attend a set number of hours of approved continuing education. Presently the state has not finalized this aspect to the educational requirements, and we expect this to be finalized shortly. Until then, the above regulations apply to you as a Licensed Home Inspector.
